Ex-RTEAN Officials Sentenced for Court Contempt

On February 24, 2026, Justice O.Y. Anuw ruled that Eriyo Osakpamwan and Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, former officials of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), were guilty of contempt of court.

This ruling followed their disobedience to a judgment delivered on October 13, 2020, which declared Osakpamwan's ascension to the position of National President of RTEAN as illegal, null, and void. The court had previously restrained him from holding any position within the association.

Despite this ruling, Osakpamwan continued to act as the National President, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. The court ordered that both men remain in custody until they purge themselves of contempt by swearing an affidavit confirming compliance with the court's order.

Osakpamwan had appealed the 2020 judgment, but the appeal was struck out on July 29, 2025, on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction, leaving the original judgment valid and binding.
