Ex-Driver Sentenced to Death for Murdering Abuja Couple

Jonathan Marcu, a former driver for the elderly couple Mr. Adebola Ezekiel, aged 80, and Mrs.

Abiodun Ezekiel, was sentenced to death by hanging by the FCT High Court for their murder, which occurred on April 1, 2024. The incident took place at the couple's residence in the Apo Legislative Quarter, Abuja.

According to police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, extensive investigations led to Marcu's arrest after he fled to Obajana, Kogi State. During interrogation, Marcu confessed to the crime, stating he gained access to the couple's home around 11:00 PM on the night of the murder.

The court found that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to Marcu's conviction. He had previously been dismissed by the couple due to repeated disagreements and alleged ill-treatment, claiming he was not adequately paid for his work over ten years.
