Four Sentenced to Death for Murder of Rivers DPO

The Rivers State High Court sentenced four individuals to death for their involvement in the murder of senior police officer Bako Angbashim. The judgment was delivered in Port Harcourt following a month-long trial linked to the gruesome incident that occurred during a police operation in Odemud Community in September 2023.

The court found the defendants guilty of murder, conspiracy, armed robbery, and membership in a secret cult group. The prosecution presented evidence showing that the officer was attacked, killed, and his body mutilated during the operation, which triggered widespread fear and outrage in the area.

The court upheld the charges against the four convicts, including Robinson Sonabari, who was identified as a native doctor providing charms for the attack. Samuel Nwadinma received a three-year prison sentence for conspiracy, while five other defendants were discharged due to insufficient evidence.

The judgment was welcomed by the prosecution as a strong statement against attacks on security personnel.
