Three Sentenced to Death for Pharmacist's Murder in Rivers

On a Friday, a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt sentenced three individuals—Confid Kirine, Precious Mona, and Sonia Bari Sagha—to death by hanging for the murder of a pharmacist. The presiding judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu, ruled that the prosecution successfully proved their case of conspiracy, cultism, and kidnapping related to the murder that took place on March 5, 2019, in the Zaakpo community of Khana Local Government Area.

The court heard that the convicted individuals were members of a secret cult group whose activities led to the murder of the victim, who was brutally killed, with his head and sensitive organs removed and disposed of in a pit. Justice Chukwu also sentenced another individual, Lovedai Legah, to life imprisonment for his involvement.

Precious Ordu, the Chief State Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, praised the thoroughness of the judgment, emphasizing that it would restore hope for justice. The widow of the late pharmacist expressed relief at the judgment, stating it would allow her husband's soul to rest in peace.
