Abuja Court Sentences 11 Terror Suspects to 60 Years

On Thursday, a special court in Abuja sentenced 11 individuals to varying prison terms of 40 to 60 years for their involvement in terrorism activities associated with Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The sentences were issued after the defendants admitted guilt to charges under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act.

The prosecution was led by Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN. Justice Obiora Egwuatu presided over the case, allowing for summary convictions based on the defendants' confessions.

Notable sentences included Musa Mustapha, Ali Moham, and Babagana Ali Abacha, each receiving 20 years for multiple counts of supporting Boko Haram. Additionally, Ali Kolo was sentenced to nine years for failing to report terrorist activities, with the judge considering his prior injuries sustained during a terrorist attack.

The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently from the date of arrest, with provisions for rehabilitation and de-radicalization.
