500 Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists Convicted in Nigeria

A recent trial led to the conviction of 500 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, with the Federal Government aiming to deter terrorism and deplete the ranks of the insurgents. The trial, held from April 7 to 11, 2026, involved 227 defendants in a special court session at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi and Director of Public Prosecution Rotimi Oyedepo represented the government, while LACON, led by Director General Aliu Bagudu Abubakar, provided defense. Sentences ranged from 20 years to life imprisonment for various offenses, including providing logistics to the terrorists.

Notably, Hamatu Modu received a 40-year sentence for supplying food to Boko Haram, while Sheu Buka was sentenced to 20 years for selling goats to the group. The trial was transparent, with oversight from Amnesty International and local media, reflecting the government's commitment to justice and rehabilitation of convicted individuals.
