FG Convicts 386 Boko Haram, ISWAP Members in Abuja

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced the conviction of 386 members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) within four days at a special court session held at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, disclosed this on Friday, noting that a total of 508 defendants were arraigned between Tuesday and Friday.

The convictions stemmed from charges of providing financial and logistical support to terrorist groups, with sentences varying from five years to life imprisonment based on the severity of the charges. Additionally, eight defendants were discharged, and two were acquitted.

Fagbemi highlighted that a batch of 112 suspects would be arraigned in the next phase of mass trials scheduled for June 15-18, 2026. He commended the judges for their dedication during the Easter holiday and acknowledged the role of international organizations and civil society groups in ensuring due process.

In a related case, Babagana Habeeb was sentenced to ten years for selling petroleum products to Boko Haram members in Maiduguri.
