Court Summons Police Commissioner in Emefiele Fraud Case

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has issued a subpoena for the Police Commissioner and a former Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria to testify in the ongoing trial of Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Justice Hamza Muazu ordered their appearance in court on April 28, 2026, as part of the prosecution led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Emefiele faces 20 counts of charges, including alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses, involving a total of $6.23 million. The court has directed that evidence relevant to the charges be presented, and the trial is expected to continue with testimonies from summoned witnesses.

Additionally, the court has ordered the tendering of documents related to the investigation into the naira redesign policy, which is part of the charges against Emefiele.
