Court Summons Police Chief in Emefiele Fraud Case

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has issued a subpoena for Jim Obaze, the former Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, and police officer Eloho Okpoziakpo to testify in the ongoing trial of Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Justice Hamza Muazu has ordered their appearance in court on April 28, 2026, as part of the prosecution led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Emefiele faces 20 counts of charges, including alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses, amounting to $6.23 million. The court has directed that the witnesses provide evidence relevant to the charges and has also requested the tendering of public relations documents related to the naira redesign policy.

The trial is expected to continue with testimonies from the subpoenaed witnesses.
