ICPC Opposes New Bail Application for El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) opposed a fresh bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the Kaduna State High Court on Tuesday. Defense counsel Ubong Akpang informed the court of the new bail application, emphasizing concerns for El-Rufai's liberty.

However, ICPC counsel Ibrahim Mukhtar requested time to examine documents related to the case. The court, presided over by Justice D.H.

Khobo, adjourned the matter to May 13, 2026, for a hearing on the bail application. The court previously denied an earlier bail request, citing the defense's inadequate response to allegations raised by the prosecution, including concerns about flight risk and possible interference with investigations.

Justice Khobo noted the failure to surrender travel documents and lack of sufficient evidence to support health-related claims, asserting that bail remains discretionary and serves the interests of justice.
