Court to Rule on Rivers LG Chairmen's Validity June 3, 2026

The Rivers State High Court is scheduled to deliver a judgment on June 3, 2026, concerning a suit that challenges the validity of local government elections in Rivers State. The suit was initiated by three aggrieved members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) against the state chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The plaintiffs, Enyi Uchechukwu, Wisdom Kalio, and Uch Amadi, are seeking a court interpretation on whether the Chukwuemeka-led state executive of the PDP, whose congress was previously nullified by the court, had the legal authority to submit a list of candidates to the RSIEC. The court's decision will determine if the PDP can participate in the local government elections scheduled for August 30, 2025.
