Court to Rule on El-Rufai's Bail in Corruption Case Today

The court is scheduled to rule on the bail application for former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai today. El-Rufai was arraigned last week on nine counts of corruption related to allegations of fraud and abuse of office filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The presiding judge, Dariu Khobo, had previously adjourned the ruling on the bail application to April 21, 2026. Last week, El-Rufai was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Kaduna, with Justice Rilwanu Aikawa admitting him to bail in the sum of N200 million.

He is required to remain in ICPC custody until he fulfills the bail conditions, which include provisions for sureties and a prohibition on public comments about the case. The ICPC has accused El-Rufai of multiple infractions during his tenure, including the alleged mismanagement of a World Bank loan and the improper approval of funds related to a light rail project.
