Nigerian Court to Rule on FCTA vs JUAC Strike Case Today

The Nigerian Industrial Court in Abuja is scheduled to deliver a ruling in the case between the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) over a prolonged strike that has paralyzed key government offices in the capital. The suit was filed by the FCTA against JUAC, with the strike disrupting activities across major FCTA offices, including the FCTA Secretariat.

The strike began after an ultimatum expired, leading to limited access for FCTA management. The JUAC insists that core issues remain unresolved.

During the court proceedings, counsel for the workers' union, Maxwell Opara, urged the court to dismiss the relief sought by the FCTA, arguing that the motion granted at the interlocutory stage could amount to deciding the substantive case prematurely. The defense argued that JUAC is not a recognized entity under the relevant laws, making their actions illegal.

The court has adjourned the matter to January 27 for a ruling on the injunction application.
