Court Halts NLC, TUC Protest in Abuja Amid Legal Battle

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) secured an interim court order to halt the planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and others in Abuja. Justice Emmanuel Subilim of the National Industrial Court in Abuja issued the order following an ex parte application by the FCTA against the planned mass protest scheduled for February 3, 2026.

The court restrained the labor unions, including the NLC and TUC, from embarking on any strike or protest pending the hearing of the motion. Despite the court order, the labor unions, led by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), continued with strike actions.

Femi Falana, the counsel for the labor unions, filed an appeal against the court ruling. The matter was adjourned to February 10, 2026, for further hearing.
