Court to Rule on Legal Suit Seeking to Stop Abuja Workers' Strike

The Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja is set to rule on a legal suit filed by Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration against the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) to halt the strike by FCT workers. The strike, initiated by JUAC, has disrupted activities in major FCT offices, demanding unresolved issues to be addressed.

The court heard arguments from both parties, with the claimants seeking an injunction to restrain JUAC from industrial actions. The defense argued that JUAC is not a registered trade union and therefore cannot call for a strike.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have shown solidarity with the strike. The case has been adjourned until January 27 for the court to make a ruling.
