Nyesom Wike Pursues Legal Action Against FCTA Workers Over Strike Disobedience

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, has initiated legal action against workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for disobeying a court order to halt their strike. The workers had continued their industrial action despite a directive from the National Industrial Court to suspend it pending the resolution of their case.

Wike's legal team has served the workers with a notice of contempt, warning of potential imprisonment for defying the court order. The strike by FCTA workers began on January 19 due to unmet demands from the federal government, leading to disruptions in public services across Abuja.

The court has ordered the workers to immediately suspend the strike, but they reportedly resumed it four days later, claiming to have filed an appeal. However, Wike's legal team argues that filing an appeal does not automatically suspend the court order's effect, emphasizing the need for compliance with the law.
