Peter Obi Urges African Leaders to Attract Diaspora Talent

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections, called on African leaders to establish enabling environments that would encourage professionals in the diaspora to return home and contribute to national development. He emphasized that Africa possesses abundant human capital, particularly in the medical profession, yet many resources remain untapped due to poor governance and unfavorable conditions.

Obi compared Africa's situation to that of China and India, which have successfully leveraged their diaspora to improve their healthcare systems and reduce poverty. He urged African countries to create the right conditions to attract skilled professionals back home, stressing the importance of active involvement from the diaspora in promoting democratic values and ensuring free and credible elections.

Obi concluded by calling for unity and collaboration between Africans at home and abroad to unlock the continent's potential and drive sustainable development.
