Obi Calls for Conditions to Bring Diaspora Talent Home

Peter Obi, a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Anambra State, called on African leaders to establish an enabling environment that encourages skilled professionals in the diaspora to return home and contribute to the continent's development. He stated that Africa is rich in human capital, particularly in the medical profession, yet many resources remain untapped due to poor governance and unfavorable conditions.

Obi drew comparisons with countries like China and India, which have successfully leveraged their diaspora to enhance their healthcare systems and reduce poverty. He noted that thousands of highly skilled doctors and healthcare professionals are scattered across the globe, possessing knowledge and experience that could drive similar progress in Africa.

Obi stressed that creating the right conditions is essential for attracting these professionals back home and urged Africans living abroad to remain actively involved in promoting democratic values across the continent.
