UAG Supports Expansion of Nigerian Army Divisions

The Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) praised the Nigerian government's initiative to increase the number of army divisions from eight to twelve, which includes the creation of four additional divisions. This strategic decision, supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the military high command led by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, aims to strengthen military operations against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across Nigeria.

Mr. Ifeanyi Aigbedion, the Convener of UAG, expressed confidence that these new divisions would enhance the operational capacity of the Armed Forces, improve command structures, and facilitate quicker troop deployments to vulnerable areas. The expansion is seen as timely, given ongoing military pressure on insurgents.

Aigbedion noted that a stronger military presence would bolster intelligence gathering and surveillance, aiding efforts to dismantle terrorist networks. UAG also commended Gen. Olufemi Oluyede for his leadership and highlighted the military's recent successes in combating insecurity, expressing optimism that the new divisions would further these gains.
