Tinubu's Army Expansion to Boost Nigeria's Security Efforts

The Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance has praised President Bola Tinubu's decision to expand the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions and recruit an additional 28,000 personnel, calling it a “game changer” for national security. During a press briefing in Abuja, the organization's Director of Communications, Igwe Ude-Umanta, stated that this initiative represents a major reform in Nigeria's security architecture, reflecting the Tinubu administration's commitment to prioritizing national security as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda.

The group emphasized that the recruitment would boost the morale of soldiers engaged in counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations. They also commended Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Waidi Ibrahim Shuaibu and Chief of Defence Staff Gen Olufemi Oluyede for their leadership in this transformation.

The organization expressed confidence in the military's effectiveness and noted growing international recognition of Nigeria's security efforts, referencing a commendation from former U.S. President Donald Trump in a letter dated July 6, 2026.
