INEC Chair Joash Amupitan on Credible Elections and Security

Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that credible elections are crucial for safeguarding Nigeria's national security and strengthening democratic governance. He made these remarks on Monday at the INEC headquarters in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the National Institute for Security Studies, led by its president, Mike Ejiofor.

The visit was part of the preparations for the institute's second annual lecture titled "Credible Elections and National Security in Nigeria." Amupitan stressed that credible elections directly impact peace and stability in the country, asserting that free, fair, and credible elections cannot occur without a secure environment. He called for collaboration among security agencies, policymakers, and stakeholders to uphold transparency and fairness during electoral cycles.

Amupitan also commended the institute for its contributions to strengthening Nigeria's security architecture. The upcoming annual lecture will feature discussions on strategies to enhance electoral integrity, with Mike Igini serving as a guest speaker.
