Nigerian Student Saved from Execution in Saudi Drug Case After Presidential Intervention

Following the intervention of late President Muhammadu Buhari, young Nigerian student Miss Zainab Aliyu was saved from execution in Saudi Arabia after being wrongly implicated in a drug trafficking case. Zainab, a student at Maitama Sule University in Kano, was arrested when banned drug tramadol was found in her bag, which she insisted was planted by an unknown person.

Her father, Mr. Habib Aliyu, appealed to the federal government, Saudi authorities, and the international community to save his daughter.

It was later discovered that Zainab was a victim of a criminal syndicate that specialized in planting drugs on unsuspecting travelers at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made arrests, but justice for the culprits remains a concern.
