Tensions Rise in NDC as Kano Chairman Rejects Kwankwaso

A crisis is developing within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Kano chapter's chairman, Mai Riga, has rejected moves to hand over the party's structure to Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. In an interview with Premier Radio Kano, Mai Riga asserted that the existing leadership will not surrender control, emphasizing that they have made significant sacrifices for the party, which has had little presence in the region.

He vowed to resist any attempts to displace the current executive and stated that he would pursue legal avenues to ensure the party structure is not hijacked. Mai Riga also alleged that the national leadership of the NDC is planning to suspend the state congress to facilitate Kwankwaso's takeover.

Despite these tensions, he noted that former governor Kwankwaso has yet to formally engage with the state executive committee. The spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Mansur Kurugu, stated that there are no issues worth discussing with the national leadership and that the congress will soon take place.
