Oyo ADC Faces Leadership Crisis with Parallel Congresses

The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently facing a leadership crisis as two factions conducted parallel state congresses on Saturday, resulting in the emergence of two different sets of state executives. One congress took place at the party's state secretariat located in the Ok Itunu area of Ibadan, where the incumbent chairman, Yinka Olona, was re-elected alongside other officials, including Alhaji Tiamiyu Abidikugu as deputy state chairman and Barrister Bimp Adelowo as state public secretary.

Concurrently, another faction held its congress along the Old If Road, electing Hon. Jimoh Adelowo as state chairman and Remi Abidogun as deputy chairman.

This division stems from a struggle for control of the party's structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Olona's faction vowing to resist any attempts to hijack the party machinery. The crisis has also led to parallel congresses at the ward and local government levels across Oyo State.
