Ogun ADC Faces Leadership Crisis Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State is embroiled in a significant power tussle, leading to the emergence of two factions. One faction, led by Femi Soluad, conducted a congress on April 11, 2023, at the party's secretariat in Abeokuta, where Soluad was re-elected as chairman.

The opposing faction, led by Emmanuel Famojuro, also held a parallel congress, supervised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo's committee, resulting in the election of Famojuro as the new state chairman. The conflict has escalated with accusations of backstabbing and attempts to prevent potential aspirants from joining the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On February 14, 2023, Soluad announced the suspension of Jimi Lawal for alleged anti-party activities, which Famojuro's faction contested, claiming it violated the party's constitution. The ongoing crisis threatens the ADC's viability as a political alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
