Tinubu's Appointment of Zuntu Sparks Qualification Concerns

President Bola Tinubu appointed Fatima Zuntu as the Director of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), effective April 16. This appointment has sparked criticism regarding Zuntu's qualifications, as stakeholders within the agency question her eligibility based on the NBMA Act of 2015, which mandates a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in biosafety and biodiversity-related fields.

Critics point out that Zuntu's publicly available profile indicates she may not meet these requirements, as she has less than 10 years of experience across six different jobs in various organizations. Additionally, the agency has experienced leadership instability, having had multiple heads in the past three years, with the previous director, Bello Bwari, resigning after six months.

Zuntu holds a degree in medicine from the University of Maiduguri and a master's in public health from the University of South Wales, but her limited experience has raised concerns about her ability to lead the agency effectively.
