ADC Cross River Rejects Interim Caretaker Committee

The Cross River State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally rejected the newly emerged interim national caretaker committee, labeling it unconstitutional and a threat to the party's electoral prospects for the 2027 general elections. Dr.

Macfarlan Ejah, the state vice chairman and central director of policy strategy, expressed these concerns during a press briefing held at the Ernest Bassei Press Centre in Calabar on Tuesday. He highlighted that the committee, which includes David Mark as interim national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary, was established following a meeting on July 29, 2025, at Chelsea Hotel in Abuja.

Ejah stated that the actions taken contravene the ADC's 2018 constitution, which does not recognize interim caretaker leadership. He warned that allowing such a leadership structure could invalidate nominations for the 2027 elections and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to intervene.

The ADC has given a seven-day ultimatum for action, threatening legal recourse if the situation is not rectified.
