Cross River Lawmaker Ovat Agbor Suspended Over Allegations

The Cross River State Police Command has dismissed claims that lawmaker Ovat Agbor was arrested for domestic violence. Instead, they clarified that Agbor was invited to respond to questions regarding allegations involving his wife.

This statement was made by the police's public relations office on Monday. Meanwhile, the Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended Agbor indefinitely due to the domestic violence allegations.

This decision followed a motion moved by David Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo during a plenary session on Thursday, where Etta condemned Agbor's alleged violent conduct, describing it as unbecoming of a lawmaker and contrary to the ethical standards expected of legislative members. The House approved the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter and report its findings back to the House for further legislative action.

Speaker Elvert Ayambem emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity and integrity of the legislature.
