Cross River Magistrates Suspend Strike Until September

The magistrates in Cross River State have decided to suspend their strike, which was originally scheduled to resume on February 8, 2023, due to unresolved welfare issues stemming from the state government's failure to fulfill promises made earlier in the year. Mr.

Godwin Onah, the chairman of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Cross River chapter, disclosed this decision during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar. The magistrates met with Chief Judge Justice Akon Ikpem, who provided assurances that their demands would be addressed by September.

Among the key demands are the provision of official vehicles, accommodation for magistrates in every local government area, and proposals for housing payments as interim measures. Onah emphasized that while no formal memorandum of understanding has been signed with the government, there is hope that the Chief Judge's intervention will lead to positive outcomes.
