Cross River Governor Pledges Support After Gas Explosion

On Saturday morning, Cross River Governor Bassey Otu visited the site of a devastating gas explosion in Edib Edib, Calabar South Local Government Area. He expressed shock at the scale of destruction and assured immediate government support for the victims.

During his visit, Otu assessed the damage and noted the significant loss of property and injuries sustained by residents. He raised concerns about the facility's location within a residential area and emphasized the need for stricter safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

Several victims are currently receiving treatment, and the governor announced that the state would provide free medical care and consider compensation for property losses. Rosa Asuquo, a victim, recounted her ordeal, highlighting the lack of response from fire services during the emergency.

She appealed for improved emergency response systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
