Gas Station Explosion in Calabar Injures Residents

On Saturday morning, a gas station explosion occurred in Calabar, injuring multiple residents and completely razing the Fonex Gas Station facility. The explosion resulted in a fire that engulfed a major section of the station, including its fuel storage tank, and destroyed vehicles parked within the premises located in a densely populated neighborhood.

Nearby shop owners were forced to flee for safety, and several victims sustained serious injuries, receiving first aid at a nearby patent medicine store, while others were rushed to the hospital for further treatment. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by a custom-made phone call near the gas dispensing area.

Ekpenyong Sam, who works opposite the station, attributed the incident to a possible electrical fault. The scene was chaotic, with parents seen crying and searching for their children.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), were mobilized to contain the situation.
