Cross River State to Aid SPAR Fire Victims in Calabar

The Cross River State Government has pledged support for victims of a fire that damaged parts of the SPAR shopping complex in Calabar. Governor Bassey Otu, through Deputy Governor Rt.

Hon. Peter Odey, assured affected traders and management that the government would conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and facilitate recovery efforts. Odey emphasized that the government would not abandon those who suffered losses, stating that immediate interventions would be determined following the assessment.

The Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Efa Nyong, has begun arrangements for a detailed evaluation of the affected premises. While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, preliminary indications suggest a possible electrical fault.

Odey commended the prompt response of the Cross River State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, which helped prevent the fire from spreading further. He also acknowledged the role of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in securing the area.
