Cross River Governor Otu to Cover Gas Explosion Medical Bills

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State announced that the state government will pay the medical bills for victims injured in a gas explosion that occurred over the weekend along Edib Edib Road in Calabar. During his visit to the scene, Otu expressed his concern for the victims and directed relevant authorities to compile an inventory of public and private properties destroyed by the fire.

He also promised to introduce measures aimed at preventing similar incidents across the state. The explosion was caused by a leak during the transfer of gas from a storage tank, which left insufficient time to warn nearby residents, resulting in flames that caused significant property damage.

Fortunately, there have been no fatalities reported, but 38 victims sustained varying degrees of burns and were evacuated to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for treatment.
