Gas Station Explosion in Calabar Injures Residents

On Saturday, a gas station explosion occurred on Edib Edib Street in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State, resulting in severe injuries to several residents and significant property damage. The explosion completely razed the gas station, including its fuel storage tank and vehicles parked on the premises, which is located in a densely populated neighborhood.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by an electrical fault in the facility, as reported by Ekpenyong Sam, who works opposite the station. Following the incident, victims received first aid at a nearby patent medicine store, while others were rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

Asp Eitokpah confirmed that efforts were underway to mobilize fire service personnel to the scene, as neither police nor fire services had arrived initially, creating a security vacuum that allowed looters to take advantage of the situation.
