C’River Gas Explosion Victims Increase to 60, Says Commissioner

The gas explosion that occurred in Calabar, Cross River State, has resulted in the number of victims rising to 60, as disclosed by Dr. Henri Ayuk, the Commissioner for Health.

During a visit to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital on Sunday, Dr. Ayuk assessed the burn injuries of the victims receiving treatment.

Initially, the number of victims was reported as 30 during a visit by the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu, on Saturday. The victims suffered from minor burn injuries and were transferred to the General Hospital in Calabar.

Dr. Ayuk's visit was part of the state government's coordinated response to the explosion, which was caused by a gas leak from a gas plant that affected several houses in the Edib Edib area of Calabar South.

The health authorities are working to ensure prompt and adequate treatment for those affected.
