Cross River Police Launches Civilian Oversight Board

The Cross River Police Command has officially launched the Civilian Oversight Board aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability within the police force. The inauguration was led by Rashid Afegbua, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State.

The board is chaired by Ntui Ogar, with Remi Aduga serving as vice chairman, and includes members such as Thompson Saviour and Emmanuel Olayi, who represents the National Youth Council of Nigeria. The board's establishment is part of a broader initiative that includes the dissolution of the Rapid Response Squad and the formation of a new unit, the Violence Control and Response Unit (VCRU), which will operate from the state command headquarters in Calabar.

Chief Superintendent of Police Titu Udofia has been appointed to lead the VCRU, which will focus on human rights and criminal justice principles. Afegbua urged the public to support the police by providing credible information and emphasized the need for additional resources to sustain the command's operations.
