CSO Protests INEC Staff Redeployment in Osun State

On Thursday, a civil society group known as the Coalition Concern Nigerian Citizens held a peaceful protest against the alleged mass redeployment of staff from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across Osun State. The group submitted a petition to the INEC headquarters in Osogbo, expressing concerns that the redeployment could negatively impact the conduct of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15.

The petition, addressed to INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, alleged that individuals affiliated with opposition parties were strategically placed in local government offices across the state.

The coalition's chairman, Musa Akinkunmi Oluomo, noted that the mass redeployment raised significant concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process, especially since similar actions were not observed during the recent Anambra and Ekiti state elections. The group demanded an immediate suspension and review of the recent staff postings within Osun INEC offices and called for a transparent audit of voter transfer activities, warning against any attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
