Supreme Court Backs Turaki's PDP Leadership Over Wike

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has unanimously dismissed a cross appeal filed by Nyesom Wike's faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which challenged the leadership of the faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki. The court's decision, announced on March 9, 2025, upheld a previous ruling that nullified the Ibadan convention held by Wike's faction, citing flagrant disobedience to a Federal High Court order.

Justice Stephen Adah stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to intervene in the internal affairs of political parties. The ruling confirmed that the PDP's national chairman is Samuel Anyanwu, with Turaki's faction emerging from the convention held in November 2023.

The court also addressed the legal representation of the PDP, emphasizing that Kamaldeen Ajibad, the legal adviser, could not bind the party due to a suspension. The Supreme Court's ruling reinforces the legitimacy of the PDP's leadership and its organizational structure moving forward.
