PDP Faction Requests INEC to Derecognize Wike's Group

The Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognize the faction backed by Nyesom Wike after an Appeal Court ruling. The court's decision, issued on a Wednesday, invalidated the recognition of the caretaker committee, stating that the lower court should not have recognized it in the first place.

The judgment confirmed that K. Ajibade and Sam Anyanwu lacked the authority to act on behalf of the party.

The court's ruling effectively nullified an earlier decision by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which had recognized the caretaker committee. The Turaki faction's statement called for INEC to immediately withdraw recognition of the caretaker committee and instead recognize the duly constituted interim national working committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The court's ruling emphasized that the caretaker committee was illegitimate and should not be recognized.
