Cultists Kill Eight in Makurdi, Benue State Attack

In the early hours of Monday, a violent attack attributed to cultists in Makurdi, Benue State, resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals. The incident occurred around 2:30 AM when armed men on motorcycles invaded Aliad Street, targeting residents in their homes.

Joseph Keffi, the chairman of the Makurdi Local Government Area, reported that the assailants entered a compound where four people were sleeping and shot them. Additional gunfire was heard, leading to further casualties.

Keffi expressed concern over the rising violence in the area, indicating that the local community is under threat from cult groups. He mentioned that the police have been informed and are expected to conduct thorough investigations to apprehend those responsible.

Ifeanyi Emenari, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident and stated that a statement regarding the casualty figures would be issued later. The deceased were taken to the morgue at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and a private hospital in Makurdi.
