Kingibe Critiques Wike's Curfew in FCT Ahead of Elections

Ireti Kingibe, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), condemned the recent imposition of a curfew by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT. Wike announced a restriction on movement from 8 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Saturday in preparation for the local council elections scheduled for Saturday.

In a statement signed by her special assistant on media, Matilda Duncan, Kingibe described the curfew as a direct affront to democratic governance and the constitutional rights of residents. While acknowledging the importance of maintaining law and order, she emphasized that security concerns cannot justify such an overreach.

Kingibe warned that the curfew could inflict severe economic hardship on small businesses and families reliant on daily income, urging the minister to immediately review and suspend the curfew.
