Nigeria Customs Auctions N14.8m Petrol in Ikeja

The Nigeria Customs Service conducted an auction in Ikeja on Tuesday, selling 14,875 liters of premium motor spirit (petrol) valued at N14.875 million. This auction was part of Operation Whirlwind, led by Deputy Controller Abubakar Aliyu, which focuses on intercepting contraband and preventing illegal export of petroleum products.

Over the past four weeks, the operation successfully dismantled a smuggling network, seizing a total of 595 jerrycans of petrol across various locations including Imeko, Ilara, Ilaro, Idiroko, Seme, and Badagry. Aliyu emphasized that petroleum smuggling undermines the economy, deprives the government of revenue, and disrupts domestic supply chains.

The auction process was conducted transparently with participation from relevant government agencies and media representatives to ensure accountability. The Customs Service aims to reintegrate seized products into the legitimate domestic supply chain rather than allowing them to be diverted illegally.
