Nigeria Customs Seizes 43,750 Litres of Smuggled Petrol

The Nigeria Customs Service intensified its crackdown on fuel smuggling along the North Central corridor, resulting in the seizure and auction of 43,750 litres of smuggled petrol in Kwara, valued at N43.75 million. The operation, conducted on Wednesday in Ilorin, was led by Deputy Comptroller Abubakar Aliyu, who disclosed that the seizure included 1,510 jerrycans of 25 litres each and 30 drums of 200 litres.

The operation targeted multiple flashpoints identified as active smuggling routes, including Kaiama, Shiya, Kenu, Boriya, Luma, Bokuru, Baruten, Ilesha, Baruba, Taberu, Salla, and Gwanara. Aliyu emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies to dismantle smuggling networks and protect Nigeria's economic interests.

He warned smugglers that the agency would no longer tolerate illegal petroleum dealings. The operation reflects the Customs Service's commitment to transparency and accountability in handling confiscated products.
