Nigeria Customs Service Uses AI to Enhance Revenue

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, has initiated the deployment of artificial intelligence to improve revenue generation and reduce audit queries. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance engagement with lawmakers and reshape the longstanding oversight relationship with the National Assembly.

During a three-day training session in Abuja, Adeniyi emphasized the importance of a proactive partnership with fiscal authorities to ensure compliance and transparency in public accounts. Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, Bamidel Salam, noted the evolving relationship between the legislature and the revenue-generating agency, dismissing the notion that parliamentary oversight is primarily punitive.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to enforce fiscal discipline and ensure accountability in revenue processes, with the Customs Service expressing commitment to respond positively to legislative summons and inquiries.
