Customs Seizes N26.57bn Cannabis at Apapa Port

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, successfully thwarted a drug smuggling attempt at Apapa Port, resulting in the seizure of 4,143.5 kilograms of cannabis indica, estimated to be worth N26.57 billion. This operation, conducted on July 10, 2026, was the largest drug seizure recorded at the nation's premier seaport.

The interception occurred during a joint examination involving the Nigeria Customs Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), following credible intelligence. A 40-foot container marked Fanu1933352 was thoroughly inspected, revealing three imported vehicles and a concealed narcotic shipment.

The search uncovered 162 bags containing 8,287 parcels of cannabis indica, with a total weight of 4,143.5 kilograms. Investigations revealed that four bags were hidden inside a 2015 red Nissan Micra, while 158 bags were concealed beneath the container's floor space.

No illicit substances were found in the two Toyota Corolla vehicles. Comptroller Oshoba described the seizure as a major breakthrough in the fight against organized drug trafficking, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy against the importation of prohibited goods.
