Ogun Customs Seizes N3.57bn Contraband, Warns Smugglers

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, intercepted contraband items valued at N3.57bn, including 6,035 parcels of cannabis and 2,339 bags of foreign parboiled rice, between June 24 and August 13, 2026. Acting Customs Area Controller Oladapo Afeni announced these seizures during a parade of the items at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State.

The seized items also included various other prohibited goods such as 70 cartons of basmati rice, 30 bags of foreign sugar, and 11,450 litres of Premium Motor Spirit. Afeni stated that the command intensified operations against smugglers through intelligence gathering and technology, warning that smuggling undermines local farmers and the economy.

He highlighted the severe consequences of smuggling foreign rice, which threatens local agricultural investments and employment. Additionally, Afeni noted that the Customs Service has handed over 32,412 parcels of hard drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency since January 2026, emphasizing the dangers of drug trafficking.
