Customs Seizes N53.39bn Drugs, Hands Over to NDLEA, NAFDAC

On Wednesday, the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, handed over nine containers of seized hard drugs and expired pharmaceutical products valued at N53.39 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) during a ceremony in Apapa. The seizures were the result of diligent intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration aimed at protecting public health and national security.

The seized items included 3,639 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 1,819.5 kilograms, 1,700 cartons of codeine syrup, and various expired pharmaceutical products. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of these seizures in safeguarding public health and highlighted the sophisticated concealment methods employed by criminal networks.

The Customs Service will continue to work with NAFDAC for further regulatory action regarding the seized items.
