Customs Seizes 189,000 Rounds of Ammunition in Niger

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Area Command, has officially handed over 189,000 rounds of live ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW). This significant seizure occurred during a routine patrol at Wawa village in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.

The Comptroller of the Niger/Kogi Area Command, Sani Mohammed Umar, stated that the ammunition, which consists of 7,560 packages with each containing 25 rounds, had been in the custody of the service since 2018 due to ongoing litigation. Umar emphasized the potential dangers of circulating such a large quantity of illegal ammunition, especially amid Nigeria's current security challenges.

In response, the North-Central Zonal Director of the NCCSALW, Abdul Adamu Eneche, praised the Customs Service for their actions and indicated that the seized ammunition would undergo necessary procedures before destruction to prevent it from returning to criminal hands. Eneche expressed optimism about improving cooperation and information sharing to combat illegal arms proliferation.
