Customs Seize 3,300 Cartridges, N365m in Contraband

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, intercepted 3,300 cartridges allegedly smuggled into Nigeria, along with other contraband items valued at a combined duty-paid value of N365.1 million. This significant seizure occurred five days after the Tin-Can Island Command intercepted 140 rifle parts.

Abdullahi Kaila, the Customs Area Controller, stated that the interceptions were made over the last two months and warned that the cartridges could facilitate terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. The seized items, including 373 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, various packs of drugs, and several vehicles, were handed over to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.

Additionally, a truck deceptively declared to be carrying food was found to contain 1,306 sacks of expired noodles. Kaila emphasized the command's commitment to enhancing surveillance and intelligence gathering to combat the smuggling of arms and drugs.
