Nigeria Customs Seizes 204 Firearms, Hands Over to NCCSALW

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command, has transferred approximately 204 firearms and various components to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW). This action follows the seizure of firearm components that were assembled into 399 pump-action rifles.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale, stated that the seizure was based on credible intelligence aimed at preventing the illegal importation of firearms into Nigeria. The container, which arrived from Turkey aboard the MV Algeciras Express on 16 August 2026, was flagged for a 100 percent examination on 18 August 2026, revealing concealed firearm components among declared goods.

The investigation into the discrepancies in the consignment documents is ongoing. The Customs Area Controller, Joe Anani, emphasized the command's vigilance in enforcing import prohibitions on dangerous items.
